Server Rules

Warning: Playing this mod may result in addiction and loss of employment.

Path of Ascension is designed with team play. Soloers will find it rough going.

Server Rules are enforced when and how the DM's choose.

Repeated violations can result in a wide range of actions, from jail time to permanent ban. The DM has a wide array of choices in between as well, including level loss, gold loss, item loss, xp loss, banishment to hell, and more.

These rules are in no particular order:

Absolutely no cursing/cussing/foul language on Shout or Talk mode. We will not stand for it. If you do not know what kind of foul language we will help you out here.

No saying the F-Word's the S-word's in any world wide language. No insulting a player pertaining to sexual preference, race or creed. No saying the Lords name in Vain for all you Catholic and Christians and Jewish people. Myself and others that play here are adults and not only the adults play here but their children do too. Being foul mouth will only get you in trouble here. 1 verbal. 1 jail time. 1 hell - then BANNED from the server.

Exploiters will not be tolerated. A large reward is in place for any who can provide information leading to the arrest and imprisonment, (or worse) of exploiters. An exploiter can be defined as someone who takes advantage of anything within the game for uses it was not intended. Example: Logging off and returning to prevent poison effects.

Battle Looters run the risk of the DM's attention. It is frowned upon, to say the least. Battle looters are defined as someone who constantly loots while others are in battle nearby. While the DM's may look the other way, if it becomes a problem or is excessive, the DM's may decide to become interested.

Castle Ascension and Town of Ascension is off limits to combat.  The only time combat is permissible in town is if hostile monsters invade. (Even then, it is easy to injure a townsperson, and be jailed or worse) The Town guard is well trained to handle such situations, but if you must enter the fray, do not use area effects. Absolutely no offensive action is to be directed at PC's or the Town NPC's.  This includes, but is not limited to, traps, spells, summoned creatures, pick pocketing, disarm, etc.

PvP is somewhat permissible on this server.  DM's will expect a good reason for murders.. Homicidal maniacs will be treated as such, and electrocuted. Don't dish it out if you can't take it. Hunting down PC's lower than your level will probably result in you being hunted down by a powerful defender for the explicit purpose of giving you the opportunity to see what your spine looks like nailed to a tree.  This also applies to anyone who kills an opponent, utilizes "Raise Dead" to bring them back to one HP just to kill them again.  You abuse...you lose.

Leeching is frowned upon, and doesn't work well with this servers XP system, as you gain no experience if anyone in your nearby party is 5 or more levels higher than you. To gain more experience, party with several people near your level for the party bonus. Summoned creatures actually contribute to xp, instead of reducing it, but do not count towards party number.

The underworld is a very dangerous place.  Go there alone, or in a small group and you will most likely be killed.  Archemlis the Betrayer is not merciful on stragglers.  Don't bother complaining...you have been warned. Its not that we discourage adventuring there.. in fact that's where some of the best loot is.  We just don't think anyone has any business going in there alone, without good backup.

Do not complain to the DM, or report thefts. Disarm is used frequently. 90% of all complaints of theft occur after the player forgot to pick up a disarmed weapon.   Another possibility is that a hostile creature has pick pocketed you. They can do that you know.  Still yet another possibility is that your corpse was looted when you respawned. If you are 100% sure you have been robbed, exact revenge yourself, or ask for help from other player in your quest for vengeance.

When a player kills another player, the victim loses xp and gold, while the killer gains. there are limits to this in place to prevent exploits, don't bother trying.

We encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas.  However, please do it on our forum and not to the DM's during the game.

Talk to all NPC in town, and read the book in your inventory before asking questions that have probably already been answered.

Please restrict shouting for use when you need to speak to everyone on the server. The default channel is talk, lets keep it that way :)  Occasional shouting is inevitable, just dont clutter up the chat lines too much.

Evil role-players: Your task is difficult here. Do not pick on lower level characters. Do not become homicidal. Have a reason for every evil act, and role-play it. If what you are doing is ruining someone else's fun, whether you think it should or not, cease and desist immediately.  Keep the DM's as informed of your plans as possible, so that victims cannot make false claims.  If you do not follow these guidelines, prepare for a rough road as an evil character.

The little known vagrancy law:  The officers of Ascension do feel sympathy for the poor, and so they gladly give a night with a roof over your head if you are found begging in the streets. AKA "Jail"

Anyone caught resting for the sole purpose of creating spawns will be banned, no warning. If your rest is successful, move on.

Players who are inactive, and do not respond when questioned, may be booted to free up space for others, if space is needed. You may attempt to relog when you return to your keyboard. No offence is intended.

In addition to the rules of conduct, there are some things you need to know about PoA:

If you die, you will be forced to respawn in 2 minutes. If you want to prevent this, keep near people who have raise dead scrolls. (Like your party members)

If you respawn, you will lose xp, gold, and possibly an equipped item.

Some treasure chests spawn one item per party member in the area.

The spell elemental shield does not do damage to anyone, that effect has been replaced with regeneration.

When a container is opened, it disappears, and a loot bag is dropped. You can get your loot from the bag. This is part of the respawning container / trap script that is used here.

You can level your character to level 2 at the rowan tree in town.

Items left on ground will be despawned after a short time.

The server vault will be purged once per month... characters who have been inactive for 4 weeks will be deleted. This is necessary to reduce log in lag. To keep your characters you must be sign up in our forums page to hold your characters for 3 months. After 3 months we will send you a email to make sure you are still with use if we notice your activity on your characters are past due. If you do not contact us when we send you the first email we will send you another one. If you do not your character folder and forums login name will be deleted. We assume you no longer play with us and you wish to not receive any further email messages from the forums page.

Characters are limited to 130 item types in inventory. Stacks of items, such as potions, are counted as 1 item per stack. When you exceed this limit, you will be sent to a small area, and you will not leave the area until you are under the limit. This prevents hoarding, and server lag on logins.

As long as you follow the rules of conduct, you will most likely have a pleasant experience here.  Usually, DM's are even willing to discuss transgressions, providing they do not have to deal with an attitude problem while trying to reason with a player.  Frequent abuse of the rules of conduct can and WILL result in a permanent ban, no appeals.  Giving a DM a hard time is probably a faster method of getting yourself banned.  If a DM asks you to do something, or stop doing something, telling the DM to "Go to hell" (or something along those lines) will most likely end up in YOU being sent to hell.

Thanks for reading, have fun :)
